The Mentor Support Network operates in the Hunter Region to support the educational goals of young people through mentoring and scholarships.
Members are individuals and organizations supportive of mentoring. All are welcome to join.
Major activities include:
Educational Scholarships are awarded to young students over 15 years old who are committed to achieving educational goals, but who, because of financial or other hardship, are at significant risk of being unable to do so. Scholarships range in value up to $3000.
Students are nominated by organisational members in August/September. Since 2008 149 awards have been made to students across the region.
Community Education provides professional development opportunities for members. High profile speakers present current research and address contemporary issues of relevance to working with youth and understanding their world.
The Mentor Training Program has been developed to provide mentors working with MSN member organizations the skills and tools necessary for working with youth. The next training session is scheduled for May.
A Mentor Recognition Breakfast is held each December to celebrate mentoring and the amazing people who volunteer as mentors. Organisational members are invited to nominate mentors working or volunteering with them for special recognition.
